This attractive box was painted by the outstanding Palekh artist Galina Alexeevna Zhiryakova. Her original author works are exhibited in museums of Moscow, St.-Petersburg and Kostroma. This work speaks for itself, showing the artist's talent and high professional skill. Though it looks rather untraditional, it is based on the best traditions of Palekh lacquer miniature painting. The composition transports the viewer into the fantastic Land of Fairies. In the center of the composition the fairy standing on the beautiful pink bridge is depicted. She is dressed in clothes made out of different plants: leaves, petals and tiny flowers. Behind here there is the beautiful marquee. Its dark blue inner part is covered with silver stars, and on its light green roof adorned with multicolored flowers two blue birds of paradise are sitting. All around the composition the other fairies and elves are scattered. Some of them are riding on the swings, the others are flying in the fantastic pink sky, or watering flowers, the rest ones are playing musical instruments, or just lying among flowers. The composition is filled with different details. Here we can find various flowers, a rabbit, a goat, a squirrel, a cock, birds of paradise, the stylized moon and sun and two beautiful flower-beds.
The faces of the characters are very detailed, as well as their bright multicolored costumes. The artist chooses warm colors in very pastel tones to compose her artistry. The forest greens, eclectic blues, mellow pinks and radiant oranges play off each other in this rainbow of poetic design. It is as if the paint was still wet to the touch. Gold and silver paint accentuate all the details of the painting. Every character and piece of foliage shines with noble appeal. The flowers, which are particularly noteworthy, bloom with jeweled elegance. An amazing dream-like effect is created. A tribute to the master.
The composition is framed with gold beading, whereas the edges of the lid are decorated with beautiful gold floral patterns highlighted with aluminum paint. The whole surface of the box's sides is covered with rich gold patterns highlighted with aluminum paint and green, blue, white, red oils. There are also intricately painted gold patterns highlighted with aluminum paint on the base of the box, as well as on the interior of the lid and on the box's bottom.
Pink oils are used to paint the exterior of the piece while the interior of the box is traditionally red. The lid is hinged from the left side of the composition, and the box sits on four legs. It is signed with the artist's name, village, title and year (1998). This original author work will embellish any collection!
