Description: Sergey Gurilyev, and his wife Maria, painted this box in a dual effort, which resulted in the creation of exquisite work. The two have been painting together since they met and their finely polished artistic techniques are very well known within the world of lacquer miniatures.
The composition depicts the world of fairy-tale which has no national bounds and limits, the world where love and kindness over all evil. Here we can see a Swedish girl and a Queen of Egypt, that represent main characters of absolutely different countries that have different cultures, saying goodbye to a loving couple riding a beautiful steed. Their fairy has finished happily and now they are hastening to their happy future.
A diverse palette is used, employing very bright paints in a wide array of tones, to create the painting. The detailing in the scene is amazing. Almost the entire scene has aluminum or gold detail work, but it is done in such a manner that does not overpower the scene. The detail work could only have been applied with a single-hair brush, using a magnifying glass, and possessing the steady hands of a surgeon.
The edges of the lid and the sides of the box are decorated with beautiful gold ornamentation. The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The box has a hinge above the composition and rests on a small platform. It is signed with the name of the artist, village, and year (2004).
