This gorgeous plaque has been painted by the talented Palekh artist Ekaterina Bykova. Its subject is based on the popular fairy-tale "Mermaid". The composition is complex, and includes many figures, such as the Sea King, the Mermaid, the Prince, the wicked sorceress, different fish, various sea creatures and water plants. Blue tones dominate here because the action is happening in the underwater kingdom. Gold and aluminum tones are used to detail the composition.
In the middle of the composition the artist has written in gold paints the following quatrain created by the famous Russian poet Osip Mendelshtam:
"The Painter, Be the creator of fantastic worlds!
Show us another worlds!
Cover your easel with the cloud of your fantasy!
And show us the beauty of falling stars!
The composition is framed with gold line. The plate is made out of paper-mache, and covered with black lacquer. It has two loops, and can be hung on the wall. The work with the artist's name, the confirmation that is the artist's original, the year of 2004, the title, and the village of Palekh.
