Description: This splendid box is a creation of Masha Lebedeva from the village of Palekh. It is based on the following poetry written on the box's sides:
The Queen in the park hangs wet clothes,
The magpie looks at her from the tree,
Many, many birds have been baked inside the cake,
Seventy tomtits, forty-seven magpies,
It's very difficult for the fidgets to be inside the cake,
And the birds start to sing loudly during the dinner,
The servants run into the golden chamber,
And bring the pie on the tray for the king,
Where is the king? He sits on his throne and writes the manifesto,
The Queen in her bedroom eats bread with jam,
The scenes are painted in bright tempera paints. The king and the cook carrying the tray are drawn against the golden background. Gold and aluminum paints add various details throughout the scene.
The scene is framed with the attractive gold pattern. Complex gold and aluminum ornamentation can be found on the box's sides.
The box is constructed out of papier-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The box has a hinge affixed from the top of the composition, and rests on four legs. This original author's work is signed and titled by the artist.
