Artist: Bogdanov Vladimir
Size: 6.5x5x6.5
Size (inches): 2.5x2x2.5
Price : $850 SOLD!

This traditional Palekh box is a creation of Vladimir Bogdanov (born 1956) whose favorite themes to depict are folklore and genre scenes. This talented artist is a participant of various exhibitions since 1985. His works are kept in the Art Fund of Russian Federation.
The box features several scenes from two various fairy-tales. On the box's lid the artist has painted the characters from Pushkin's "Tale of Sleeping Princess and Seven Bogatyrs". Here we can see the Sleeping Princess, her dog, and all seven bogatyrs, and also Prince Yelisey asking the Red Sun where he can find his bride. At the bottom of this scene Bogdanov has written in gold paints his name, Palekh, and the year of 2004.
On the box's sides Bogdanov has painted a series of episodes from the Russian folk fairy-tale "The Humpbacked Little Pony". Here we can see Ivan who has caught the magic Fire-Bird (left side); Ivan who is the owner of the golden-maned steeds and the little humpbacked horse (rear side); Ivan trying to kidnap the beautiful Tsar Maiden (right side); and Ivan's wondrous transformation into a handsome man (front side).
The box's exterior is covered with black lacquer, and decorated with intricate gold and silver floral patterns. The interior is traditionally covered with red lacquer.
The box is made out of paper-mache. The lid is hinged at top, and the box rests on a flat bottom.
