This box painted on the religious theme is a creation of the talented husband and wife duet of Vadim and Olga Parilovy. These famous Palekh artists specialize in painting icons and lacquer boxes on the theme of religion.
The work is called "Virgin Marya with the Child". To paint it the artists have used various tones of tempera paints, and gold metal paint to add various details throughout the scene, and also to decorate the box's exterior with attractive patterns. While signing the box, the artists have written not only their names, but also left the confirmation that this work has been made by the members of the old and famous Palekh dynasty of artists. It is a well-known fact that Vadim Parilov is a son of Boris and Anna Parilovy, and a grandson of Nikolay Parilov who was the best pupil of Ivan Golikov and one of the founders of the modern Palekh lacquer miniature style.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Dark crimson lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The lid is hinged from the left of the scene, and the box rests on four rounded legs. Although the work was painted in 1997, it is in ideal condition!
