This is a fresh original work of the famous Palekh artist Yekaterina Meshkova (for a long time this artist has been working under the surname Bykova). The box shows the lady and the gentleman who carry on an intrigue at the masked ball. The scene is painted in blue oils, and masterfully detailed with gold and silver paints. Gold is also used to paint a thin frame around the scene. The box's exterior imitates the coloring of marble (blue and lilac veins and blurry spots are scattered against the black lacquered surface).
The box is made out of paper-mache. The box has a hinge from the top of the scene and rests on a flat bottom. On the lid's interior Meshkova has written her name, Palekh, the title (“Intrigue”), the year of 2007, and the confirmation that this work is of original design.
