Description: This vividly detailed piece of authentic Russian artistry was created by the well-known Palekh artist Yekaterina Meshkova. It shows the main characters of Hans Christian Andersen's popular fairy tale "The Snow Queen". In the center of the composition the beautiful and majestic Snow Queen is depicted. A little below we can see Gerda and Kay. The upper left corner features the Snow Queen kidnapping Kay, and carrying him to her ice kingdom. The bottom left corner shows the Little Robber Girl and her mother. In the upper right corner Meshkova has painted Gerda riding the reindeer, and crossing the boundless expanses of the Lapland. Beneath this scene we can see the evil dwarfs who carry a magic mirror intending to break it and let out all of the ugliness above the world.
Cool tones of blue suitable for reproduction the moments from the winter fairy-tale dominate here. Both gold and aluminum are used to add various details and fill the composition with a magic sparkle.
The scene is framed with a gold line. The box exterior imitates the coloring of blue marble (blue veins and blurry spots are scattered against the black lacquered surface). The interior is traditionally red.
The box is constructed from quality paper-mache. The lid is hinged from the top of the composition, and the box rests on four legs. On the lid's interior Meshkova has written her name, Palekh, the title, the year of 2007, and the confirmation that this work is of original design.
