Description: This small round box dipped in festivity and coated with technique, was composed by the talented Anna Kamanina from the village of Palekh. Anna was born on the 11th of March, 1956 in the village of Palekh. She is a member of the Union of Artists of Russia since 1989. She comes from the hereditary artist family; she is a daughter of Ivan Kamanin and Nina Kamanina. During 1971-1976 Anna studied in the Palekh Art School. Her teachers were V. Golov and V. Khodov. She paints icons, and lacquer boxes on the themes of Russian folklore and religion. Her works are exhibited in the State Museum of Palekh Art, in the All-Russia Museum of Applied and Folk Art and in the Ivanovo Regional Art Museum.
The box shows girls and lads riding merry-go-round. The scene is beautifully drawn, with Kamanina's customary attention to detail. The round shape of the box suit perfectly for the depiction of a marry-go-round. If you try to turn the box on you palm, you'll be amazed to see the small model of a marry-go-round.
The edges of the lid are adorned with gold beads. Gold beads can be also found wrapping around the box's sides along with the gold floral and leafy pattern accented with silver paint.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid isn't hinged and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed by the artist.
