This gorgeous box that shows two pink roses has been created by Tatyana Kamanina, the wife of Sergey Kamanin. Tatyana was born in 1972. During 1987-1992 she studied in the Palekh Art School. She finds the themes for her works in Russian literature and folklore.
The roses are masterfully painted in the realistic style. The fresh fragrant flowers look spectacular against the black background. Each petal, bud and leave is richly detailed with bright gold paint applied with a very thin brush.
The scene is framed a nice gold scrolling design. The box's sides are decorated with an intricate floral pattern painted in gold and silver paints.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The lid is hinged from the top of the scene, and the box rests on four legs. Signed with the artist's name, Palekh, and the year of 2007.
