Alexey Zhiryakov from the village of Palekh painted this brilliant work. It shows the puppeteer who shows a performance of his puppet show to the audience. The scene is painted in bright tempera paints; predominance is given to greens and blues. Gold and aluminum paint is used to detail and highlight virtually every portion of the scene. The artist continues to paint the floor of the circus on the box's front side, and on the box's exterior bottom. The rest sides of the box are decorated with an original pattern painted in gold, silver and tempera paints, and accompanied with the images of clocks painted in tempera paints.
The box is constructed out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The box has a hinge above the scene, and rests on four rounded legs. The work is signed with the artist's name Palekh, and the year of 2007.
