This adorable beauty was sketched and filled with a personal flare. The precious palette, the luxury of the decoration. Both products of talented Palekh artist Ludmila Gelisheva. A thoroughly attractive piece, an old world tradition.
On the box's sides and on the box's lid the artist has drawn some recognizable moments from the Tale of Princess Frog. On the box's sides we can see Ivan Tsarevich whose arrow landed in the swamp near the frog; Vasilisa the Wise and Clever who creates a miniature lake full of swans with just one nonchalant wave of her hand; the moment when Vasilisa disappears before Ivan Tsarevich because he has broken his word and burnt the frog's skin; and Baba-Yaga who helped Ivan to return Vasilisa. On the box's lid Gelisheva has painted the Bear who helped Ivan to kill Koshchei the Deathless.
The palette is full of cool blues and greens. Each scene is richly detailed with gold and silver paints. Gold paint is also used to decorate the box's exterior with attractive leafy patterns.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The lid is hinged, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name.
