This interesting Palekh box is a work of the famous Palekh artist Yekaterina Meshkova (maiden name is Bykova). It shows medieval musicians playing their music for a beautiful lady. The costumes of the characters are skillfully detailed with gold and silver paints.
The scene is framed with a gold line. The black lacquered surface of the box's exterior is covered densely with grey-pinkish blurry spots. The interior is traditionally red.
The box is constructed from quality paper-mache. The lid is hinged from the top of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. On the lid's interior Meshkova has written her name, Palekh, the title ("Music"), the year of 2007.
