Alexey Zhiryakov from the village of Palekh painted this brilliant work. It shows the puppeteer who shows a performance of his puppet show to the audience. The scene is painted in bright tempera paints; predominance is given to greens and blues. Gold and aluminum paint is used to detail and highlight virtually every portion of the scene.
The sides of the box are decorated with an original flower pattern painted in gold, silver and tempera paints.
The box is constructed out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The box has a hinge above the scene, and rests on four legs. The work is signed with the artist's name Palekh, and the year of 2008.
