Description: This luxuriant box is a creation of the talented Palekh artist Veronika Chibisova. It shows the characters from the folk Russian tale “Golden Ring”. In this tale the peasant's son, Semyon, managed to marry a tsar's daughter with the help of a dog and a cat. Semyon saved these animals from death, and to return him kindness they started to serve him.
The refined painting technique of Chibisova's shines on this splendid box. The palette contains a wide spectrum of bright and vivid colors. Gold and silver paints, applied with extreme precision, detail almost every aspect of the composition. The composition is framed with a rich floral pattern painted over a gold metal leaf inlay. The similar floral pattern painted over a gold metal leaf inlay can be found on each of the box's sides. The sides are also decorated with elegant and very intricate patterns drawn in silver and gold paint with a very fine brush. This is a festive and beautiful piece!
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. A hinge is fastened to the top of the scene, and the box rests on four rounded legs. The work is signed with the artist's name, the title, the year of 2008 and the village of Palekh.
