This traditional Palekh box has been created by A. Kosach. Here the artist has drawn shepherds flirting with maidens in the summer forest.Various shades of green tempera paints help the artist to create a beautiful summer landscape. The artist has done a wonderful job in the development of texture. The leaves of the trees twinkle like the coins in a treasure chest. This is due to the consistent use of bubbling golden contours. The characters clothes have been highlighted in this manner as well.
The box is constructed from papier-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior.The exterior is decorated with intricate gaold and aluminum patterns.The lid is hinged, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is sign with the artist's name , Palekh and the year 2008.
