This romantic scene has been painted by Yelena Bonokina from the village of Palekh. A handsome lad and a pretty maiden are having a date in the summer forest. They look at each other with admiration, and trifle with fresh, ripe, forest berries.
The palette is based on earthtones that convey the sense of the rural atmosphere. Gold and aluminum paint details a majority of the scene, which makes the details bring the scene to life. The entire scene sparkles brightly with gold and aluminum.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work.
