Description: This marvelous nine-sided box was painted by duet of mother Nataliya Brovkina and daughter Fillipova Anastasia from the village of Palekh.
On the top of the box we can see a family collected in a large village house and listen to a grandmother who is telling the fairytales.
Right on the front side on the lower level we can see a fragment from a "Little Hump-backed horse" fairytale--two big horses and a little one, to the right, same fairytale is continued.
On the back side of a lower level we can see a painting based on "Golden Rooster" fairytale, if we will turn the casket to the right again--
we will see the Shemakha Princess with a Tsar-"Golden Rooster" fairytale is continued here.
The front of the upper level shows us a fragment from Tale of Tsar Sultan. To the right we can see Ivan and the Gray Wolf, who is helping Ivan.
The back side of the upper level shows us again Tale of Tsar Saltan, Princess Swan and magic Squirrel. The last side shows us "Geese and Swans" Fairytale, Sister Aleonushka is trying to hide brother Ivanushka from Geese under the Apple Tree.
The palette for this piece contains a bright spectrum of vivid brown, blue, grey and red colors. Gold and silver paint, applied with extreme precision, details almost every aspect of the composition. The gold and silver detailing is so fine, in fact, that a brush with no more than a single hair was used in many areas.
The casket is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while red lacquer completes the interior of the box. The composition is framed with a simple pattern composed of silver and gold beads. The sides are decorated with more complex floral and foliage ornamentation painted in gold and aluminum. A hinge has been fastened to the top of the composition, and the casket rests on a four legs. The work is signed with the artist's name, the title and the village of Palekh.
