This charming plate has been created by established Palekh artist Vera Smirnova. On this composition we can see how the artist interpret Palekh art to a common life. Here the four young ladies are shown as the four Seasons- Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter.
The characters are extremely well detailed. Smirnova really knows how to take command of this interesting scene.
As customary with Palekh tradition, the black lacquer exterior also acts like the background for the scene. This furthers the beauty of the composition tremendously. Using lustrous gold leaf, the artist has decorated the costumes of all the characters. Gold paints are also used to detail the scene.
The composition is framed with intricate gold foliage ornamentation.
The plate is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the plate. The plate is coming with a stand, but also have two holes,so it is easy to hang it on the wall. The work is signed, titled and dated (2010) by the artist in gold paints at the bottom of the composition.
