Description: This magical piece of genuine Russian artistry was composed by the talented Yuriy Petrov from the village of Palekh whose style is as unique as it is recognizable. Nature is his chief muse and he manipulates what is painted to bring across his personal artistic vision. Blending ornamental techniques, with realism, he is able to paint in a style that is new and fresh to the world of lacquer miniatures.
The box shows a canvas in a frame and the dandelion flowers. The details are thoroughly increased because of the black lacquer exterior of the work, a great Palekh tradition. Gold and aluminum paint is used to craft the majority of this natural scene. The fluffy flowers of dandelions, their leaves and some of the grass are crafted three-dimensionally. The composition painted on the lid is extended on the box's front side where the artist continues to paint the dandelions and their leaves. The seeds of the dandelions flying in the air are painted on each of the box's sides and on its exterior bottom. They seem to float away into the realm of the wish right before your very eyes.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. A hinge is fastened from the top of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, Palekh and the year of 2007 on the lid's interior.
