Description: This beautiful piece of genuine Russian artistry was composed by the leading Palekh artist Natalie Kornilova. She has crafted elegance within fantasy, a surreal composition of a well-known character of Cinderella. The characters have been dipped into gallons of personality. The setting is alive and full of flare. Add in the decorative elements of the piece and you have one very eclectic assembly of elegance and intricacy.
The sentimental tale of, "Cinderella", or "Zolushka" (it is the Russian version of the tale) tells about the poor and hard working girl who is rewarded in the end of the story for her kind heart and love to labor. The handsome Princes proposes marriage to her, and she becomes the Princess.
On the left hand side we can see the begging of the story, when Cinderella is working at the house of her step-mother.
On the right/central part of the composition the artist has depicted the moment of the story when Cinderella has lost her crystal shoe. The Prince is in the hope of finding out who was that beautiful lady who danced with him the whole nightlong. No doubt, it was Cinderella dressed in the rich elegant dress, and the happy end of the story approaches.
The composition is an utter delight. All of the human figures has an individual look, and it is evident that the artist spent much time and focused painstaking efforts on working out each gesture, each trait of the face, and each minute detail of the costume.
The scene is painted in bright green, red, orange and blue paints against the gold background of the gorgeous wall ornamented with intricate patterns. Gold paint is also used to add various details to the scene.
The scene is framed with a gold ornament. More complex flower ornamentation decorates the box's sides.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers its exterior and red lacquer covers its interior. The box has a hinge from the top of the composition and rests on four small rouund feet. The artist wrote her name, title- Cinderella and the village name of Palekh under the composition in gold paints.
