This matryoshka (nestling doll) was made in Sergiev Posad. It is made out of wood and includes four dolls (five on the whole). Each doll features a pink-cheeked, brown-haired, freckled maiden who laughs merrily and inspires good mood in the viewer. The maidens are dressed in the blue and white costumes. They wear dark blue dresses richly decorated with light blue blossoms and white kerchiefs also decorated with light blue blossoms. This coloring repeats the style of Zhel painting on porcelain (Gzhel is a small town not far from Moscow where porcelain goods such as chinaware, tea-things, different figurines are produced). The first (the biggest) and the second dolls wear pearl necklace. Some of the foliage that decorates the aprons of the first, the second and the third dolls is painted in gold. The work is signed by the artist (Lebedeva), and also there is the inscription: "Russia".
