This matryoshka (nestling doll) was made in Sergiev Posad. It is made out of wood and includes four dolls (five on the whole). Each doll features a pink-cheeked, red-haired, freckled maiden who laughs merrily and inspires good mood in the viewer. The maidens are dressed in the violet and black costumes. They wear violet sarafans, white shirts, black kerchiefs decorated with red berries surrounded with white foliage, copper-golden necklaces, copper-golden kokoshniks (ancient Russian head-dress) and black aprons decorated with the images of an owl. It should be mentioned that the owls on the aprons are painted in different poses: they flap their wings, fly or just sit on a tree branch. The edges the aprons are framed with a copper-gold line. The apron of the last and the smallest doll is decorated with a flower instead of the owls because of its small size. The work isn't signed by the artist.
