This traditional Russian matryoshka (nestling doll) made out of wood is the production of Abramtsevo Art School. It includes four dolls (five in the whole). The dolls feature attractive girls dressed in white costumes richly decorated with clusters of blue berries. According to a Russian tradition their heads are covered with gold kokoshniks (head-dresses) decorated with white pearls, and with white kerchiefs. The edges of the girls' kerchiefs and the edges of their aprons are painted in gold paints. In case of a first and the biggest nestling doll these areas are painted with gold paints mixed with gold spangles. The foliage depicted on the apron is painted with gold paints; the berries depicted on the kerchief are also painted in gold paints. The work is signed with the artist's initials: S.S.
