This Easter egg resting on the pedestal shows Kazanskaya Blessed Virgin with a child and repeats the ancient Russian icon with the same name. There is an interesting legend connected with this icon. Once there was the tremendous fire in the town of Kazan. The next day the daughter of a merchant whose name was Matrona had a wondrous dream. She dreamt that there was the miracle-working icon under her burnt house and she heard the voice ordering her to extract this icon from the ashes. This dream repeated three times. The girl told her dream to her mother and soon workers were sent to check prophecy of the dream. To everyone's surprise the icon was indeed discovered in the place indicated by the girl. This icon was called the icon of Kazanskaya Blessed Virgin. It worked many wonders and helped the Russians to win victories in many battles. For instance it helped to repel the Polish invasion in 1613.
The image of the Blessed Virgin with a child is painted against the gold background. The halos over the heads of Saints are painted with multicolored spangles. The rest area of the egg is covered with brown paint. The work isn't signed by the artist.
