Description: This set of nesting dolls includes five colorful wooden dolls that show various characters and episodes from Lewis Carroll's classic tale "Alice in Wonderland". The first and the largest doll shows Alice sitting on the grass, the White Rabbit who eats the magic mushroom to become smaller in size, the White Rabbit's house, the Cheshire Cat lying on the tree, and the Worm smoking the hookah. All around them extends the fairy-tale landscape filled with bright green grass, bushes, trees, and beautiful flowers. The second doll depicts the famous scene of tea drinking. The Hare, the Hat, Alice and the Dormouse sit at the table. At this moment the Hat tells Alice that the Time has taken offence and stopped; and now it will be always 5 o'clock. It is the time of afternoon snack in England, when Englishmen usually drink tea. The third doll displays the episode when Alice met gardeners who were busy with painting white roses with red paint. The reason of their strange behavior is serious. The Queen ordered to plant a RED rose-tree, but they put a white one in by mistake; and now there was a threat for them to have their heads cut off. The forth doll shows the head of smiling Cheshire Cat, and also Alice, the Queen, and other cards playing croquet. Their game is very strange; they hold live flamingoes in their hands that serve them as the mallets. The fifth and the smallest doll features Alice, the Cheshire Cat, the Queen, and the Rabbit blowing the trumpet.
The scenes are vividly and expressively painted in bright colors with addition of gold and silver paints. Brilliant work! Signed with the title and the artist's initials (M.E.).
