The box is constructed from paper-mache. Its exterior is traditionally covered with light blue lacquer, and red lacquer completes the interior of the work. A hinge has been fastened to the top of the scene, and the box rests on the flat bottom. Chirkova has written her name, the title, and Fedoskino lacquered miniature on the box's exterior bottom.
