Suzdal is one of the oldest towns in north-east Russia. It was the Capital of the Rostov-Suzdal Principality in the 11th Century. Town of Suzdal is located approximately 200 km from Moscow on the banks of the River Kamenka . The view of the Bell-towers and Domes of Churches share a tree-lined panorama with vistas of the horizon stretching as far as the eye can see. The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the piece. Gold ornamentation frames the composition on the lid. The box has no hinge and rests flat. It is signed with the artist's name, village of Kholui and title.
