This beautiful box was painted by talented Kholui artist, Lapshina Elena. In the center of the lid she depicts a mother-bird that carries food in its beak to its nestlings while all around this scene she paints beautiful flowers, ripe berries, various plants and trees.
Composition is framed with golden dots. The box's sides are decorated with silver based ornament that accented with yellow tempera paint.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged from the left of the composition, and the box rests flat.
The work is signed with the artist's initials, Kholui and the title ("Birds").
