This small round shaped box is a splendid specimen of traditional Mstera lacquered miniature production. The work is called "Mashenka", and shows a girl standing on the sunny, forest glade with a basket filled with ripe berries. The scene is framed with a thin gold line while the box's sides are decorated with a nice floral pattern painted in gold and tempera paints.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged from the top of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's initials, Mstera, the title and the year of 2007 .
