This inpressive box has extensive paintings around the body, and one oval composition on the lid. The creator of this magnificent work is Mikhail Strunin from the village of Mstera. It is another piece from his series of works dedicated to Old Moscow. Working on it, Strunin used the old paintings drawn in the 17th century. So, looking at it, the viewer has a splendid opportunity to imagine how ancient Moscow looked like.
The oval composition on the lid shows the Moscow Kremlin and Tsar's Bell in the middle.On the background -several Kremlin's Towers and Archangels's (Assumption Cathedral) of Kremlin.
The front side of the box's body depicts the view of the Cathedral square with all the Cathedrals of Kremlin:Cathedral of the Annunciation, Cathedral of the Archangel Michael,the Church of the Twelve Apostles and the other notable structure is the Ivan the Great Bell Tower.
- 1850. On the back side of the box we can see the Red Square with famous St.Basil's catherdal( another name is Pokrovskiy)and major tower-Spasskaya. Also a monument to Minin and Pozharskiy. To paint this box the artist is used brown and yellow-orange tones that are traditional for the engraving on which this painting is based. Gold paint used to detail only the scene painted on the box's lid. The painting is outlined with a gold line, and then framed with intricate gold ornaments.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The lid is hinged at the top, and the box rests flat.
The painting is sign on the extrior's botton with the name of the work,the year of engraving (1850),Mstera and the name of the artist.
