This box has been painted by talented Mstera artist Antonina Medvedeva. It depicts a scene from the Russian folk fairy-tale "Snowmaiden".
To reproduce the atmosphere of winter the artist uses the palette filled with different shades of bright blue paint.
The composition is framed with a silver line and then decorated with the original pattern painted in gold and aluminum. The same aluminum pattern wraps around the sides of the box.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The lid isn't hinged and the box rests on a flat bottom. On the bottom of the composition the artist paints in aluminum the title of the piece, "Snowmaiden", the village of Mstera, and her initials-M.A.
