Description: This box has been painted by a talented artist Nikolaev Alexander, from the village of Palekh. It features one of the characters , Prince Elisey, from the Russian classic tale "Tale of the Sleeping Princess" written in verse by Alexander Pushkin.
In this tale the Evil Queen's servant who gave the poisoned apple to the Princess, and she felt asleep. Here the artist has drawn Prince Elisey who asks the Moon and the Sun where he can find his beloved Sleeping Princess.
The artist's palette is diverse, but the predominance is given to various shades of green and red tones of tempera paints. Nikolaev enhances details with brilliant gold paint that makes the composition radiate with a tremendous glow.
The scene is framed with gold beads while the box's sides are decorated with a gold scrolling pattern. The box is constructed from papier-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior. A hinge is fastened to the top of the composition, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, Palekh and the year of 2016.
