Markin of Palekh is the artist who painted this detailed box. It shows the cellist sitting on the chair, playing the violoncello.
Various shades of green, blue and brown are used by the artist and painted against the black background. Most of the fine details are added with the use of gold and aluminum paint.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The scene is framed with gold beads while the box's sides are decorated with intricate gold leafy patterns. The lid is hinged from the left of the scene, and the box rests on four feet. The work is signed with the artist's name, Palekh, and the year of 2007.
