This elegant Palekh box was painted by a family tandem of mother and daughter- Olga Subbotina and Marie Bokareva.
It features the girl on a swing, and the lad who is pulling and pushing her. The scene is painted in orange red and green tones, and richly detailed with gold and aluminum paints. It is filled with dozens of various flowers, plants, birds and looks strikingly attractive.
The scene is framed with intricate gold ornamentation. The sides of the box are decorated with the beautiful gold and aluminum Byzantine style ornamentation.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. The lid is hinged from the top of the composition. The box rests upon the four round legs. The work is signed, titled and dated by the artists.
