Description: This small richly decorated box is a creation of Svetlant Yevdokimova-Belovodova from the village of Fedoskino. The work is called "Masquerade", and shows a lady and a gentleman flirting with each other wearing masks. The scene is painted over mother-pearl inlay that shimmers with a variety of undertones raging from light green to bright pink. The lady's fan and a fragment of her costume are decorated with tiny silver beads and crystal beads. The scene is framed with a wide gold band. The left and right edges of the lid are adorned with large oval malachite beads encircled by tiny gold metal beads glued to the box's exterior manually.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. For additional decoration the black lacquered exterior of the box is studded with gold wavy lines and veins, tiny crystal beads and silver dust. The red lacquered interior of the box is studded with gold veins. The lid is hinged from the top of the scene, and the box rests on four oval malachite beads encircled by tiny gold metal beads glued to the box's exterior manually. The work is signed with the artist's name, the title, Fedoskino and the year of 2010 on the lid's interior.
